"The fourth edition of Canadian Copyright Law brings you the latest updates according to new Canadian legislation and international agreements. Copyright infringement has always been illegal. Today with near-constant access to the internet and the mainstream explosion of digital formats, copyright is one of the most important issues for creative professionals, consumers of that media, and those who work in related industries. The line between what is protected and what is "free" is blurring further, and the copyright issues are more complex then ever"--Book jacket.

Since publication of the first edition in 1996, Criminal Law by Kent Roach has become one of the most highly regarded titles in Irwin Law's Essentials of Canadian Law series. Professor Roach's account of the current state of substantive criminal law in Canada has become essential reading not only in law schools but also among judges, practitioners, and others involved in the criminal justice system. The seventh edition of Criminal Law has been thoroughly updated to include new developments such as the interaction of the legal rights in the Charter with the reasonable limits provision in section 1 of the Charter in R v KR , disagreements between the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Manitoba Court of Appeal about whether the exclusion of murder from the offence of duress can be justified, new developments in the offence of infanticide, and the relation of the due diligence defence to statutory standards. The discussion of provocation has been updated and simplified to take into account the Supreme Court's and Parliament's recent restriction on the controversial defence. This new edition also has been revised to include important decisions from the Alberta and Nova Scotia Courts of Appeal and Parliament's enactment of Bill C-51, which makes several changes to sexual assault offences.

Perceptions of and experiences with police and the justice system among the Black and Indigenous populations in Canada: Highlights * The Black population and Indigenous people (First Nations people, Métis, and Inuit) living in Canada have distinct histories, backgrounds, geographic distributions, and current conditions and situations. While these groups are distinct, their perceptions and experiences are explored in this article to highlight similarities and differences relative to the population who is neither Indigenous nor a member of a population group designated as visible minority. * According to the 2020 General Social Survey (GSS) on Social Identity, one in five Black (21%) and Indigenous (22%) people have little or no confidence in police, double the proportion among those who were neither Indigenous nor a visible minority (11 %). * Based on data from the 2019 GSS on Canadians' Safety (Victimization), Black and Indigenous people are more likely to rate police performance poorly. Perceptions of and experiences with police and the justice system among the Black and Indigenous populations in Canada by Adam Cotter, Canadian Centre for Justice and Community Safety Statistics The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms (Canada Act 1982) states that all individuals in Canada are equal before and under the law, and that all should be afforded equal protection and benefit of the law without discrimination.
